I think by now, I’ve gotten a hold of everybody…but I wanted to post the invitation to the Becker home in KC the last weekend in October. The invitation is open to everyone and their spouses, but the focus would definitely be on the guys hanging out. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten to kick around. The paths behind our house are ever open and longing for the footfalls of some Hollow Men. Boulevard Wheat will flow, and maybe we can talk Shotts into bringing some Summit Winter Ale (if it’s in season). I think the fall suits us well, and I miss all of you guys. I think it’d be a great time to get together. What say you all?

Consider this a glass raised to you all–and to Toby for inviting us for a classic fall gathering in Kansas City. That last weekend in October, of course, has much past significance. I believe there were two such weekends–one in October of 2000 and the other in October of 2001–where many of us, including the illustrious Jerod, gathered for some really good times. The Westport Coffee House and Harry’s pub both figured prominently, as did long walks and the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum. Leaves falling, in full color, Halloween revelry in Westport.
As you can see, I’m nostalgic also for it. I’m in for the last weekend of October, and could arrive Friday evening and leave on Sunday. I may see if there are cheap flights from MSP, or if I can use a frequent flyer. But even if I have to drive, I have this weekend now reserved–and look forward to it. Thanks for the invitation, Toby. Sorry Memorial Day didn’t work out, but I think this is an excellent alternative.
I, for one, vote for this weekend to be guys only. I’m putting it out there. I think what we could use–or I could use, at least–is a good time with the Hollow Men. I have not had quality male bonding in, frankly, a long time, and I think harkening back to the classic last weekend in October is just the ticket. That’s my vote, at least.
What say the rest of you? –Shotts
Hey All,
I think the October date is highly unlikely for me, but I’m not counting it out. Comng down without Sara and the kids even further complicates the issue for me; so perhaps as the proverbial odd-man-out, I should allow the festivities to commence without me. I, like Shotts, could very much use some male-bonding time (I have virtually no friends here), but, alas…
Ned
Tempting. Flights from AUS to MCI are under $250 that weekend. May be difficult with work. I’ll talk to my super when he’s in a good mood.

I hope this might work for you, J. E. That would be excellent. Flights to MCI from MSP are not as cheap, I’m afraid. So I’ll keep a watch on it, for now…

Ned–
I’d be really sorry if you couldn’t be there. Any way you could score a flight somehow? Or any way KCAI would fly you down to give a talk or something? I know, I know. Unlikely. Understandable.
And I just put the notion out there of a guys-only weekend, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s my vote, however. But it’s just one vote.
As for me, I’ll keep watching the flights…

What is a good price for a flight from Minnepolis/St. Paul to KC? I did a little research and found some flights in the price range J.E. mentioned. It’s available from Midwest Airlines (which is all 1st class roomy seating — my favorite airline).
Their prices aren’t accessed on the Orbitz and Expedias of the world. Below is a screenshot of the pricing grid for that weekend.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, Tob. This DOES help!
We’re off for Colorado, and I’ll start looking for tickets in earnest upon my return. I may just use a frequent flyer on Northwest, but we’ll see…
I have heard very good things about Midwest Airlines, so may have to give it a shot.
