A couple of film recommendations…

Per-petterson-author I’ve caught a couple of more impressive movies over the last month and I’d be interested to see what you guys think of them.  Up for watching these and discussing?

Even though I don’t want to set up any expectations, the first one reminded me of what might happen if Per Petterson took a stab at the vampire genre.  I watched Let the Right One In and that’s the thought that kept running through my head.  The vampire story is almost secondary, and I’m interested if you guys would describe the primary theme in the same way I would.  There is still quite a bit of blood, but the movie doesn’t contain any of your typical “shocks” that Hollywood seems so fond of.  Thank goodness this isn’t Hollywood.

The other movie is Moon, which I can’t really even describe to you without giving things away.  Let’s just say, it has to do with the moon.

Anyone up for discussing these if you’ve seen them?  Or watching, then discussing?

Moon is an excellent film. I can’t say enough about it. There is a lot to give away plot wise but unlike some films with a suspenseful plot I’m sure it will stand up to second viewing. I think the production design for this film is flawless as well.

So, yes, I would love to discuss it further. Maybe I’ll watch it a second time. I think it is available on Netflix streaming.

Oh, and if you like Moon I think you would love, Primer: What Happens If It Actually Works? Terrible title, great film.

J.E., I’ll definitely check out Primer. I’ve heard great things about it, and it’s been on my “watch list” for a while.

Re: Moon, Sam Rockwell was already one of my favorite actors in the business. Believe it or not, he was the most interesting part about Charlie’s Angels remake…I was totally mesmerized by his turn as the villain. Anyway, one of my favorite actors out there. Moon is sort of a showcase for him, and rightfully so. I couldn’t imagine anyone with less deft a hand starring in it.

    Vampires suck.

Ned, do you mean that literally or figuratively?

I agree with the literal, disagree with the figurative 😉

    That’s flu humor.

Just got Netflix- are going to hook it up to our wii and forgo cable. Watched Moon and really liked it. Liked that he is wearing a t-shrt in the opening sequence that says, “wake me when it’s quitting time”. If you liked this, might also like The Machinist, and Solaris.
