:::this is the way the world ends:::

John Estes has a book of poetry out.

We got a post card from Finishing Line Press (www.finishinglinepress.com) that announced the publication of John Estes’ (Jennifer’s husband) first book of poetry. You can find it in the new releases section on the website. I’d be interested to hear what you know about the press, Shotts. I’m going to order a copy. I’d also appreciate it if anyone has the Estes’ new email address to send it to me, or post it here, protected I suppose. Sara had tried to contact them recently but failed to get ahold of them because of their address change. John teaches at Columbia in MO so I suppose we could find him there. His book is called “Breakfast with Blake at the Laocoon. Perhaps the rest of you got the card as well.

Thanks for the info. I’d like to check it out too.

John replied to an email saying that it was just a chapbook (I think that’s a smaller book of poetry, right?) But anyway.

I received the postcard as well. That’s great for him. Yes a chapbook is a smaller selection of poetry, usually around 20-25 pages, often done with letterpress or in very limited run. Finishing Line Press is such an operation. I’ve read a fair amount of John’s poetry in the last year–very intelligent, often coming out of scholarly reading and research, such as this sequence about Blake. And a fair amount that comes out of his spiritual belief, heavily Orthodox.

I think he’s still a PhD candidate, and probably has a couple more years to go, if I’m thinking right. Yes, at UM at Columbia.
