Sorry to say it, but I think the Aspengren/Shotts will not be attending the MHS reunion. I’m a little disappointed, as I think it is something I would have normally gone all out for, but with some travel right after that time, it seems like it would be tough on the family this go around. That, and my grandmother turns ninety in September, so we are planning to drive down, the four of us, in very late August/early September. We’ll be around Sedgwick County for that. Hope to see the Beckers on the way down and/or the way back up, and hope to stop through McPherson County and see the Peters.

Sorry to miss the reunion, however. I imagine it will be fun–and it will be either completely different from the ten-year reunion (due to new marriages and families), or it will be frighteningly and exactly the same.

I told Jeff that I was open to this. We will be leaving that next Monday for Boston, flying out of MCI, so if anyone needs a ride to the airport that day…
Our home is also open for people to stay the night if needed.

I don’t know if there’s a night when maybe we can all get someone to watch our kids. Not that I don’t want to see some of everyone’s kids, I certainly do, but I feel if we all have our kids at some Happy Chef moment, it will be more chaos than catchup, or maybe chaos with ketchup. I’m all for the quality over quantity too.

Until you started as a regular reader (and commenter) I didn’t think much about audience and whether they would lose interest or not. I view the blog section of my website as more of a foundation for my artistic cosmology.

So when I read this interesting and challenging book what would the title be?

I feel I have always been pretty faithful to this blog, but I have to say, ultimately, I did get frustrated with it. And don’t worry about my harsh mistress, I know how to get my splendid isolation. I plan to blog once a week, not everyday. If that means people lose interest so be it. But I feel that is the only way I can maintain any kind of consistency. Incidentally, who knows if you’ll read this (or maybe when is a better view), but I am reading a book that you would find interesting and, I think, challenging, though I have only finished the first chapter.

Glad to see this Ned. A personal blog can be a harsh mistress though. I hardly think it's jumping ship, but I am a little regretful that we seem to have much more interaction on gannonned and newgottland than we do on wearethehollowmen.

I think the way it is framed here was due to the fact that the original form of the thing was a performance where the artist painted in front of the congregation and the video was up on a screen. This was the closest thing to the original performance they could get with video. As someone who is pretty awful at promoting my own stuff, that didn’t occur to me, but I guess I can see that perspective.

This doc is long (almost a hour and a half) so enter with time on your hands, but it is well-produced and thought provoking. It mostly focuses on the music industry with some moments on the film and visual art industries (if you can even call the visual arts industries). I may use it in class to get my students to think about the way they do things.

Not sure I will bring Beckett to The Hobbit movie–he’ll just be four by December, and I’d rather he experience the book first. Might be two or three years down the road for us. Beckett did see the trailer, however, and was excited by my excitement.

Should be great for you, Ned, to have Eliot along, and maybe Claire, on this adventure.

I agree. I think the song was a brilliant move and a great atmosphere establishment. I’m excited because this go-around I’m taking Eliot with me. We’ve read the Hobbit (and he re-read parts on his own) and we’re going to read the trilogy before this comes out. I may take Claire, too, depending on how Sara reacts. Claire, of course, was a little bored with the book. She said, “Are there any women at all?”

Saw this last night, and was excited about it, mostly seeing how the younger Bilbo looked (excellent) and just seeing Ian McKellan again as Gandalf. I worry about the many dwarves, and how that will be played for humor, but it seems the only way the film could handle the absurdity of it and those names. Amazing to see Cate Blanchett back, and Gollum, of course. I note that Smaug the Dragon nowhere seems to appear, so maybe that is for part II. They connected the look and feel of this brilliantly with the Lord of the Rings. Can’t wait.
