Sketchbook Fridays

Here are a few pages from one of my sketchbooks that I plan to turn into a full grown painting when I have a moment to paint.

  1. Here’s what the barrels are saying (not my words):

“Every time we give something out we have an absolute need that at least the equivalents should come into us, and because we need this we think we have a right to it. Our debtors comprise all beings and all things. They are the entire universe. We think we have claims everywhere. In every claim we think we possess there is always the idea of an imaginary claim of the past on the future. That is the claim we have to renounce…”

  2. Ned, I love the sketchbook, and will be prepared to love the final version in painting/on canvas, when you have done it. I hope that time comes to you soon–perhaps over the holiday breaks upcoming?

I admire this “wolf” sequence you have going. Are the quotations spoken by the barrel from a specific writer, artist, or other person? Let us know whose words they are.

  3. Yes, thanks for posting this. Hope to see more soon.

Do tell, where do the quotations come from?

  4. Simone Weil.

  5. Ned, I love your usage of color…the orange and black is used really effectively and play off one another. Also, the use of the page as a ground, and as it sort of exists above and below the pieces of the composition, as well as creating shapes of its own. Quite effective.
